1961 Rambler Classic Super 4 Door Sedan
Auction: September 2026 Consignment Vehicle Auction

                    •   Thursday, August 27, 2026 (Start)
                    •   Thursday, September 3, 2026 (End)
Year: 1961 Make: AMC Model: Rambler Mileage:  TMU VIN: C565291 Drivetrain: RWD Engine: Inline 6 Transmission: Manual Fuel: Gasoline Color: Blue Title: Clean Registration: Expired Distinctive early-1960s styling, a remarkably intact period interior, and a manual transmission with overdrive give this 1961 Rambler Super four-door sedan plenty of vintage character. Finished in light blue with coordinating blue interior trim, it retains many of the details that make these early Ramblers immediately recognizable, including pronounced rear fins, extensive brightwork, Rambler badging, its original-style dashboard and instrumentation, and period interior hardware. The odometer currently shows approximately 45,880 miles, though actual mileage is unknown. The light blue exterior appears largely unrestored and displays the patina expected from a vehicle of this age. Rust and corrosion are present in multiple areas, along with paint chips, scratches, dents, dings, and general finish deterioration. Much of the exterior stainless and chrome trim remains in place, as do the Rambler and Super badging and original-style wheel covers. The windshield and other glass passed our limited inspection, as did the headlights and taillights. The turn signals were not functioning when checked, and no exterior side-view mirrors are fitted. Buyers should review the photographs closely, as they provide a detailed look at the body, paint, trim, and overall exterior condition. Inside, the Rambler retains an appealing amount of its period equipment and trim. The blue dashboard features its distinctive horizontal instrument cluster, original-style Rambler radio, bright trim, glovebox with script Rambler emblem, and Weather Eye heater/defroster controls. A large three-spoke steering wheel, front and rear bench seating, manual windows, and period door hardware complete the cabin. The seats have been recovered or fitted with gray fabric seating surfaces and present considerably better than some of the surrounding soft trim. Age-related wear is evident throughout, including stained and worn carpeting, discoloration and staining to the headliner, weathering around the dashboard, and deterioration to portions of the interior trim. The driver's front door panel is particularly deteriorated and partially detached. The door locks, radio, and climate controls were not functioning during our limited check. A floor-shifted manual transmission is fitted along with an overdrive control, an interesting period drivetrain configuration that adds to the car's vintage appeal. Under the hood, the engine compartment remains largely complete in appearance, with the engine, air cleaner assembly, radiator, battery, and associated components present. The engine was started during our inspection and runs with a pronounced engine knock. Because of this, the Rambler was not road tested and was operated only as necessary to park it. The transmission, clutch, and drivetrain were therefore not fully evaluated. The brake pedal did not feel firm during the limited function check, while the parking brake and steering were found to operate. Fluid levels and potential fluid leaks were not evaluated as part of the inspection. Mechanical service and further diagnosis should be expected before the vehicle is put into regular operation. With its unmistakable finned styling, largely intact period cabin, manual transmission with overdrive, and numerous original-style details still present, this 1961 Rambler Super has plenty of appeal as a restoration candidate or vintage American project. The engine knock is an important mechanical consideration, but the car's completeness and surviving period features provide a worthwhile starting point for an enthusiast looking to preserve or restore an increasingly uncommon early-1960s Rambler. VEHICLE CONDITION & INSPECTION NOTICE Vehicle descriptions are based on general observations made during the cataloging process and are not intended to constitute a comprehensive mechanical inspection or guarantee of condition. Unless specifically stated otherwise, no comprehensive mechanical inspection or diagnostic evaluation has been performed.
